此為十九世紀法國名雕塑家巴里重要代表作，描述希臘神話中鐵修斯參加拉比特族王子婚禮時，與鬧事的人馬獸搏鬥之情景。1894年為設置巴里紀念碑，複製放大原作，並置於巴黎塞納河聖路易島上，二戰期間遭熔毀。

1999年巴黎市政府為重現原貌，跨國向奇美商借原作，由奇美贊助資金放大複製二件。2011年紀念碑於巴黎塞納河聖路易島上重建完成，以法文和繁體中文加註原委，另一件送回奇美博物館，設置於臺南都會公園博物館大道入口處。

One of the most important pieces by 19th century French sculptor, Barye, portrays Theseus fighting with a Centaur at the wedding of Prince of the Lapiths, as described in Greek mythology. The original work had been placed on top of the Barye monument on St. Louis Island in the Seine River, Paris, in 1894. It was subsequently destroyed during World War II.

In 1999, in an effort to restore the monument to its original state, the Paris municipal government turned to Chi Mei for help. The Chi Mei Culture Foundation sponsored to have two larger copies made out of its collection piece, which is on display at the CHIMEI Museum. One of the restorations was placed on top of the Barye monument in 2011, with a plaque on the back in traditional Chinese crediting the Chi Mei Culture Foundation for the restoration. The other restoration was placed at the front entrance of the CHIMEI Museum in the Tainan Metropolitan Park.
